Toronto Nuit Blanche 2007

This post is a little late in its conception, but the words were waiting to be written since I attended my first Nuit Blanche.

Having lived in a city the size of Toronto, you do not realize it's ambience until you visit it at night. And I have, on many nights, visited different parts of Toronto. I've been out with my friends on summer evenings, at School working or studying late during cold Winter nights, and many more which cannot all be listed in this blog.

However, I loved Nuit Blanche. It's meant to be an all night event, when the city opens its doors to the public for 12 hours - from dusk to dawn, and contemporary artists set up/create their visions, and the public can visit these artistic spaces over 12 hours. They have itinerariess, zones with focussed views, and so much more. To be honest, I visited only 3 of the 195 artistic spaces created for this special night. But I cannot, in fact, I refuse to forget the feeling of vibrancy I felt in downtown Toronto that night.

I met up with friends along the way, but I feel I experienced the city and the culture, best when I was alone, and could soak up the playfulness and artistic vibe of my city. I am not the most patient tourist or media person, and my camera died on me 15 minutes into my journey downtown. However, I captured these 2 shots on my ever present cellphone.
The first one is a picture of the Royal Ontario Museum (you can see the latest renovations, which now house the Chin crystals). I love the fact that it was so crowded, so bright, and so noisy on a Saturday night at 10pm. Absolutely fantastic atmosphere!

The second one - it's just a tree outside the ROM, but I love the way it came out, swaying in the breeze, and the twinkling lights in the background.

The impromptu salsa lessons on the sidewalk (courtesy http://www.sidewalksalsa.com/) and musicians setting up concerts at street corners, was an unforgettable and exciting experience. Now, I can't wait for the next Nuit Blanche, and maybe next time, I'll visit a few more sites!
